HARIPUR, Dec 12: Abbottabad circuit bench of the Peshawar High Court has admitted to full hearing a writ petition filed against a union Nazim, and ordered that a status quo should be maintained in the case.
The petition was filed by the Naib Nazim of Mankraye (Haripur) union council, Raja Zubair, and councillors Haji Abdul Salam and Maulvi Attiqur Rehman.
The petitioners had challenged the Union Council Nazim Maulana Matiur Rehman’s holding of the office despite the fact that a vote of no-confidence had been adopted against him.
Advocate Amjid Ali Shah appeared for the petitioners and argued the Nazim was removed through a vote of no-confidence. He added that the Nazim should be barred from using the title of Nazim.
The petitioner also challenged the jurisdiction of the Haripur DCO, who allowed a three-month leave to the Nazim.
After hearing arguments, a two-member bench comprising Justice Rauf Lughmani and Justice Mohammad Qaim Jan admitted the petition.
