Four MPAs among 1,000 held

LAHORE: The Punjab police on Monday continued a crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), PML-Q and Pakistan Aawmi Tehreek workers to prevent them from arriving in Islamabad for “Lockdown Islamabad”.

Among the arrested include three PTI MPAs (from Okara, Layyah and Multan) and one PML-Q MPA (from Kasur) and several ticket holders and office-bearers of the PTI and PML-Q.

Over 1,000 PTI workers were arrested in Punjab under the Maintenance of Police Order (MPO).

Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed said the Punjab police were ferociously raiding PTI workers’ residences and claimed that over 1,000 arrests had been reported.

OKARA: Police arrested PTI MPA Masood Rubera late on Sunday and sent him to jail for one month.

The other arrested workers included Hafiz Rao Usman, Muhammad Ijaz, Umer Wahla, Abdul Wahab and Muhammad Saleem.

BAHAWALPUR: Police said they had arrested PML-Q’s Muhammad Idrees and Muhammad Nawaz and PTI’s Ahmed Nawaz Randhawa, while several others have gone into hiding.

Also, police shifted the earlier arrested 130 activists to the Central Jail.

SIALKOT: Up to 42 PTI activists were arrested in late night raids in Sialkot district.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Police continued raids late on Sunday and Monday on the houses of PTI workers in the district.

Those in police custody are Shabbir Nanha, Zahid Rehmani, Asif Ali, Naeem Iqbal, Muhammad Shahid, Zaheer Ahmad, Khurram Shahzad, Sabir Masih, Muhammad Adeel (a physically-challenged boy), Ghulam Husain, Muhammad Aslam and Tahir Husain Ranjha.

SHEIKHUPURA: Up to 88 PTI leaders and workers are in Sheikhupra police custody, while Nankana Sahib police booked 30 PTI activists.

KASUR: PML-Q MPA Sardar Waqas Moakal was among 17 political workers arrested on Monday.

Those arrested workers included Abid Jamal, Khalid Mahmood, Muhammad Asif, Khan Wali Khan, Naeem Mushtaq and Ali Afsar.

LAYYAH: Police arrested 27 activists of the PTI and PML-Q .

Among the arrested include PTI MPA Abdul Majeed Niazi. He was arrested near Islamabad.

MUZAFFARGARH: More than one dozen PTI workers were arrested while police sealed the Shershah bridge on the River

Chenab, disconnecting the district from Balochistan and Sindh.

Saddam Sukhera was arrested by Mahmoodkot police in a hospital where he was under treatment.

MULTAN: Police arrested 45 PTI workers in the districts of Multan, Khanewal and Lodhran on Monday.

The crackdown was going on by the time of filing the report at 7pm.

Up to 24 PTI workers, including PTI MPA (PP-195) Haji Javed Akhtar Ansari were arrested by the Multan police.

The number of arrested workers in Khanewal is 14 while in Lodhran seven.

Those arrested in Lodhran included Dr Sher Muhammad Awan, Naeemul Hasan, Allah Nawaz, Ehsan Tahir, Usman Tahir, Tahir Hussain and Umer Hameed.

GUJRAT: Fifty-five political activists of the PML-Q and the PTI were arrested in late night raids.

Former PML-Q ticket holder Shujaat Nawaz Ajnala, Haji Baber Saleem Khokhar, Fazeelat Shah, Chaudhry Naseer Kotli, Rafique Kamboh, Noman Akbar Warraich, Shafqat alias Shaqu, are among the arrested people.

An official of the police said 59 people, mostly from the PML-Q, were arrested, of them four were released for their age or health factors.
