QUETTA, Dec 12: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yousuf said on Friday that President Gen Pervez Musharraf had promised that the province’s financial and other problems would be resolved and no injustice would be done with it.

Talking to a provincial delegation of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society and nazims of Lasbela, he said the newspapers should highlight the province’s financial problems and lauded the media’s role in promoting tolerance and brotherhood.

He said President Musharraf was apprised about the financial constraints and other problems of the province during his visit and he assured that Balochistan would get its rights and its financial position would be strengthened.

He said the president had agreed with the provincial government about the development of Gwadar. He said the Gwadar Port Development Authority would confine its function to the port area and the Gwadar Development Authority would perform all other uplift programmes in the town.

He said the president would consider announcing a development package for the provincial capital.

Jam Yousuf assured the APNS delegation that his government would take steps to settle the problems of the local newspaper industry.

He told the nazims of Lasbela district that the provision of funds as assured by the president and the prime minister would ensure the completion of the ongoing development projects in the province.
