LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has received and installed a solar net metering system of 135 kilowatts, enabling its consumers to produce the solar energy through their own sources, sell it to the government and add it to the national grid.

According to Lesco chief executive officer, the system will enable a consumer to have a net metering connection on his/her premises for the measurement/calculation of the imported and exported electricity.

“It means that this meter/connection will calculate the total electricity provided by Lesco to its consumer and the electricity generated and sold by the consumer to Lesco. And finally a monthly bill will either be served on Lesco or consumer on the basis of energy calculation/measurement,” CEO Wajid Ali Kazmi explained in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the domestic consumers could enter into the business by getting the solar panel system installed in the Lesco jurisdiction. He said various officials concerned have been imparted special training to understand and operate the system well. He said the system would help the government reduce loadshedding.

SIKHS: Hundreds of Sikh pilgrims will arrive on Saturday (tomorrow) in Lahore from India to attend the 10-day celebrations of the 548th birth anniversary of Baba Gurunanak Dev Jee.

The main ceremony will be held at Gurdwara Janamasthan, Nankana Sahib, on Nov 14, and the pilgrims would return home on Nov 21.

ETPB chairman Siddiqul Farooq and Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief Sardar Tara Singh will receive the pilgrims at the Wagah railway station, according to a spokesman.
