KOHAT: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani has underlined the need for taking initiatives to rid the people of unnecessary police litigation to ensure prompt and easy dispensation of justice to them.

Addressing a ceremony on the inauguration of newly-constructed complex for police assistance lines (PAL) and dispute resolution councils (DRCs) during his visit here on Tuesday, Mr Durrani hoped that with the shifting of their operations to the newly constructed premises, the efficiency and public service delivery of police would certainly witness a marked improvement.

Explaining the rationale behind establishment of PAL, the IGP said the decision to launch it was taken jointly by police and the provincial government keeping in view the troubles and difficulties faced by an ordinary citizen everyday in matters related to police department.

The services being offered at PAL include theft/lost items reporting, tenant information reporting, CNIC verification, vehicle verification, police character verification certificate, police security clearance certificate, child lost & found and legal advice.

District police officer Mohammad Sohaib Ashraf while briefing the guests about the working of DRC Kohat since its inception in 2014, said that a total of 557 applications were received out of which 413 were amicably resolved, 18 were referred for legal action while 126 were under process.

Mr Ashraf said the PAL was aimed at providing police services to people in a welcoming, courteous and comfortable environment. Then PAL has been designed to offer one-window and expeditious solution for everyday police related issues within shortest possible timeframe, he added.

JIRGA CALLS FOR UNITY: The Muhammadzai peace jirga has appealed to all the political factions to shun their differences for the sake of Kohat development.

The jirga held under the chair of Maj (r) Muslim Khan was attended by its spokesman Waheed Khan, councillors and social workers.

Muslim Khan said that those who blocked the highways for demanding an oil refinery in Kohat could not get its approval from the prime minister during his recent visit despite making tall promises. He recalled that the gas and highway projects approved by the prime minister for Kohat had already been announced by former MNAs Pir Dilwar Shah and Khurshid Begum and Afridi brothers.

He said it was beyond understanding why more gas projects were approved when dozens of others could not be completed in a decade. He regretted that no gas project had been announced for important town of Muhammadzai which was also the home town of MPA Ziaullah Bangash.
