SAHIWAL: The Punjab Sports Board (PSB) has sanctioned four different development projects worth Rs263 million to develop basic infrastructure for the promotion of sports in the district.

Official sources say the projects will be completed in one year after the tendering process.

A sum of Rs15 million will be spent on the construction and upgrade of the Harrapa Stadium, Rs14.79m and Rs62m on the Quaid-i-Azam and Zafar Ali Khan stadiums in Sahiwal.

An allocation of Rs108m has been earmarked for the construction of a sport gymnasium in Chichawatni city which will also have a modern badminton court.

A sum of Rs64m has been allocated for the construction of a Sport E-Library in the Zafar Ali Stadium in Sahiwal. Talking to Dawn, Divisional Sports Officer Akbar Murad Ali confirmed that the projects had been approved.

Dawn learnt that PSB DG Zulfiqar Ghuman visited Sahiwal and met the officials concerned for timely execution of the projects.

Sources quoted him as saying that the Punjab government was spending Rs5bn on the construction of 40 gymnasiums in different districts of the province which would be run under the public-private partnership. He said the PSB was working to develop rules and regulations for making the partnership possible.

SENTENCE: Jameel Ahmed Chaudhry, anti-corruption special judge, has announced four-year imprisonment and Rs50,000 fine to ASI Zafar for taking Rs20,000 bribery from schoolteacher Manzoor.
