KOHAT: The district election commission officer, Shahabuddin, has said that if all the eligible people, including women and the disabled, registered themselves as voters here the longstanding demand for one additional seat of the National Assembly for Kohat can be materialised.

Talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Mr Shahab said that the number of registered voters was little short than the requirement for two National Assembly seats which could be achieved through awareness campaign with the participation of community organisations, civil society and local councillors.

He said that by registering their votes the people could enhance their representation in the National Assembly and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and play their role in the development and prosperity of their district and the country.

He said that the National Database Registration Authority had handed over the data base of voters to the election commission offices which would be stored in model warehouse in Kohat to be constructed soon.

Asks people to register as voters

He said that they had started arrangements for educating the people about the power of vote. He said that they would hold seminars and other programmes at schools and public places in connection with the National Voters’ Day on Dec 7.

In another incident, two people were killed when a truck hit their motorcycle from behind on the Indus Highway. The motorcyclists, Noor Wali and Arif Khan, died on the spot. The Cantonment and Jarma police have registered cases against the drivers.

Meanwhile, unidentified men looted cash and gold worth millions of rupees from a house after intoxicating the inmates in Jawaki Banda on Hangu road, police said.

A statement issued from the DPO office on Tuesday said that unknown thieves managed to drug the residents of a house in Sabeelabad. They made away with 16-tola gold, Rs2 million saving certificates, Rs200,000 cash, seven mobile phones, a laptop and pistol, the police said.
