LAHORE: A free medical camp, a seminar and a walk were arranged at the Shalamar Hospital in connection with the World Diabetes Day on Wednesday.

More than 300 patients were examined by senior doctors at the camp and cholesterol, blood sugar and HbA1c tests were also conducted free of cost. Free medicines were provided to the patients as well.

MPA Farzana Butt, students of Shalamar Medical and Dental College, doctors, nurses, other paramedical staff besides hospital’s board of trustees chairman Chaudhry Ahmad Saeed, Shalamar Institute of Health Sciences chief executive retired Brig Anis Ahmad, college principal Prof Zahid Bashir and other faculty members participated in the walk.

At the seminar Prof Dr Bilal Bin Younas briefed the participants on the facilities available at the hospital. Dr Rashid Ahmad, Dr Rozina Arshad and Dr Muazul Hassan explained to the participants the diabetes, its different types and treatment.

Terming diabetes a silent killer, they said lifestyle played a vital role than medicines in controlling it.

“At least 40-minute walk or light exercise on a daily basis is necessary for diabetics,” Hassan said.
