KOHAT: The literary forum of Ghurazai Payan has resented the lack of science teachers in the local government schools and municipal facilities in the area.

It said that there was no science teacher in the two girls and boys high schools which was spoiling the future of students and demanded their early appointment by the district education department.

The members of the forum, including Liaquat Khan, Nooran Shah, Dr Naeem Khan and Rehman Shah, said at a meeting on Wednesday that there was no water facility and municipal services in the area and people were deprived of basic amenities.

They said that a water supply scheme for the village, which had a population of about 25,000, was started in 1998, but later abandoned for unknown reasons. They regretted that the women of the area brought water on their heads from ponds at far-off places.

They also complained about staff shortage at the local girls and boys primary schools.

SCIENCE CONTEST: Assistant political agent of Frontier Region of Kohat, Qasim Ali Khan, has termed it a good sign that the students of terrorism-hit Darra Adamkhel have not spoiled their abilities.

Speaking at a science exhibition arranged at the government high school in Darra Adamkhel as chief guest, he appreciated the display of small inventions by the students of 11 local schools.

He announced Rs10,000 for scouts of the school besides installation of a solar tube-well and construction of playground for the school.

Agency education officer Qazi Mehmood said that little inventions were a first step towards becoming a scientist. Principal Mukarram Khan praised the students for their achievements.

PROMOTED: The regional promotion committee of police, Kohat, endorsed the promotion of 129 head constables to the rank of assistant sub-inspector on Wednesday.

The committee meeting was chaired by DIG, Kohat region, Awal Khan and attended by the DPOs of Kohat, Hangu and Karak. The promoted officials included 19 from Kohat, five from Karak and two from Hangu.

Meanwhile, a boy was killed and three people were injured in road mishaps here on Wednesday.

The police said that Mohammad Amir, a resident of Barh, was waiting on Bannu Road for his friend when a tractor hit him and he died instantly.

Similarly, Rehmat Khan, Mst Akbar Jana and Mst Pyao Gulla were injured when a van hit them while they were waiting for a transport in Bahadar Kot. They were taken to a local hospital. Police have registered cases against both the drivers.
