Uber on Thursday launched its rickshaw-hailing service, uberAUTO, in Karachi.
The service will be giving free rides all week, Uber announced on its Twitter.
To avail the free rides, patrons are asked to enter the promo code FREEAUTO.
With the aforementioned promo code, patrons can avail five free rickshaw rides up to Rs75 each, today through Nov 27.
People can pay using cash or card, depending on their preference.
Uber first launched uberAuto in Lahore in October this year.
In order to use uberAuto, a patron will need to download the Uber App from any App store and request a ride from the app.

Very good development. Karachiites will benefit.People are looking forward to see road rebuilt, places cleaned, security better, performance of police like real metro police, abolish VIP culture from Karachi, and better water supply by installing RO plants at beaches,as well as in city, to coup with water shortage.Since Karachi is highest payer to exchequer,it must get modern benefits. The local government needs full empowerment
and their rightful funds from Sindh Govt.

How will this benefit rickshaw drivers?
Already it's easy to find rickshaw on the road. Why arrange one over phone?
With Uber cars people can use their own cars and that's what create incrntives for people to provide service. It eliminates middle man.(well others apart from Uber )
I am afraid it will not have as much popularity. Rickshaw drivers will soon realize that it is better for them to randomly find people on the road as they ride rickshaw. As with cell phone, people are making them wait too much. Also there is less money that these drivers may end up making.

Use the low fares while somebody pays to subsidize them and kill your local service base.

i am surprised to see all the educated (as they can read and write in english language here on dawn) as well as ignorant people hailing the launch of a transport service by a multinational provider. such a shame that a blood sucker MNC comes to pakistan with a suitcase, a laptop and a piece of software and start sucking our blood. all the cars and rikshaws are pakistani, owned by pakistanis and operated by pakistanies. why should a laptop owner get a huge chunk of this economic activity. why cant another pakistani start such a service providing IT based company and help our ailing economy. please wake up my nation and start loving pakistan and buy pakistani. thanks.

@MUrad Rickshaw drivers charge more than Rs 20/km. They limit their own market. Since we insist on earning the maximum possible from each client, we end up handing over all clients to multinationals, then work for them for peanuts. Actually we are not business minded, we are extortionists. In Chinese world, it's the opposite, multinationals end up handing over their businesses to locals.
