HYDERABAD: Preparing for convention of its Hyderabad workers in Scout Ground of Latifabad scheduled for Friday evening, the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) leadership has promised that it will announce a road map of the party which will prove to be a milestone in the political history of Sindh and Pakistan.

PSP chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal, who was accompanying its president Anis Qaimkhani, secretary general Raza Haroon, Ashfaq Mangi and other leaders, told the media at the convention venue that he and Mr Qaimkhani had taken the decision [to part ways with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement founder] on the basis of ‘right and wrong’ and not for ‘gain or loss’. “Time has proved that our decision was right,” he said, arguing that today the PSP had 15,000 workers — something any political party in the country lacked — in Karachi alone. “We are running short of resources to accommodate those who are joining the party. There is a saturation in other political parties while we are facing an influx,” he claimed.

He told newsmen that he would talk in detail at the Friday convention and also give a road map.

“I will share what we are going to do and that under what circumstances we had taken the decision. So far, I had been talking in piecemeal and titbits,” he said.

Describing PSP’s struggle as a ‘decisive movement’, Mr Kamal said the Friday convention would prove to be the trendsetter in the country’s politics. “This convention will make a history and will be a milestone in politics of Hyderabad and Sindh,” he said.

Refusing to give any hint sought by a questioner, he requested the media to leave every question regarding Hyderabad and Dr Farooq Sattar-led MQM to Friday [proceedings of the convention].

Briefly speaking to the media, Mr Qaim­khani claimed that several dozen activists belonging to the MQM and some other parties had joined the PSP today.

Charges against Qaimkhani framed

Charges against PSP president Anis Qaimkhani in a 1994 arson case were framed when he appeared before the Hyderabad sessions judge on Thursday.

Mr Qaimkhani pleaded not guilty in the case.

The judge issued summons for 11 prosecution witnesses in the case and fixed the next hearing for Dec 14.

The case against Mr Qaimkhani was registered at the Cantonment police station in 1994. He was recently granted bail in case.

The Hyderabad sessions court would take up an application filed on his behalf under Section 265-K of the CrPC (quashment of case at any stage of trial) by his counsel, Nisar Durrani.

Former MQM member of the National Assembly Salahuddin and Abdul Rasheed Khan aka Bhayya are among the absconding accused in the case.
