KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali has said the judiciary is indeed the third pillar of the state under the Constitution with immense responsibility, but no institution can deliver without adequate infrastructural facilities.
He expressed these views while inaugurating the ATC complex constructed on the premises of the Central Prison Karachi to house six anti-terrorism courts. He appreciated the Sindh government for its cooperation in the construction of the complex.
The CJP said he hoped that the authorities concerned would raise further structures for housing remaining courts too.
He said the government was directed to establish as many as 20 ATCs on the premises of the penitentiary in view of huge flow of cases that caused delay in provision of justice. “In the first phase, six new courts have been inaugurated and further will be established soon,” he added.
He said the new courts would provide cheap and timely justice to the people. The courts would also grant relief from the load of cases to the judges, court staff and lawyers, he added.
The CJP congratulated Justice Amir Hani Muslim of the Supreme Court who oversaw the functioning of ATCs in Sindh.
He said the performance of an institution that lacked infrastructural facilities was bound to be poor. “The improvement in the infrastructural facilities is aimed at early provision of justice,” the CJP said.
