KARACHI: The Dr Farooq Sattar-led Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Sunday expelled one of its parliamentarians, MNA Ali Raza Abidi, for violating party’s organisational and political policies and asked him to resign from his assembly seat.
Mr Abidi is an MNA from Karachi’s Mehmoodabad area (NA-251). His father, Akhlaq Hussain Abidi, was also elected MNA on a ticket of the MQM.
An MQM-Pakistan spokesman said in a statement that the coordination committee decided to terminate the basic membership of Mr Abidi as despite several warnings he was not following the party policies it had adopted since Aug 23.
Although the spokesman did not elaborate, it was clear that he was referring to the Aug 23 press conference of Dr Sattar in which he parted ways with MQM founder Altaf Hussain and his London office.
“The MQM-Pakistan also directed him to resign from the National Assembly,” the spokesman added.
Mr Abidi was not immediately available for comment.
