Gwadar: drought threat

Published December 20, 2016

GWADAR is now an emerging city of Pakistan. It has a population of more than 85,000 but its people suffer from a shortage of water, especially in summer because of scanty rainfall. In the absence of potable water, the people are forced to boil sea water for consumption.

There is just one dam called, Ankara dam, whose water cannot be preserved for six to eight months. The dam water is also supplied to western areas of Makran division, but now because of scanty rainfall the water level of the Ankara Dam is not adequate enough to meet the requirement of all those who depended on it.

The Balochistan government should build more dams at the earliest to overcome the water shortage in the province.
