The problems remain, occasionally hidden behind the facade of sporadically great performances. Batting continues to be erratic and often marked by poor technique. Any good batsman should know where his off stump is and make judgements to leave deliveries that need not be played. Younus Khan, the great player that he was, is past his best. One fears that Misbah can no longer hold his place in the team as a batsman. For long spells, the so-called fast bowlers look pedestrian in pace and skill in ball movement. Lastly, the catching is sloppy. The briefly held number one ICC test ranking was a fleeting illusion. Pakistan cricket is depressing for its lack of talent. The selectors should recognise this and have a plan to develop the future of Pakistan cricket.

For as long as I remember, dating back to late 60's, Pakistan's batting has always been in doldrums. There has been occasional great performances, but it has never been consistent!
There were a lot of individual performers like Hanif, Zaheer, Majid, Miandad, Inzi, Yousuf and Younus, but as a team performance is always lacking.
I think what Pakistan needs is tough mental training!

I think Misbah and Younis Khan should retire after the Australian series regardless of their performances in Australia. They were kept in the team because their experience was needed for the series against New Zealand and Australia. We all know what happened in New Zealand.
Even if they performed well in the remaining 2 tests in Australia both of them should retire after the Aus series.

@Adib KHAN a very good analysis that I have seen by any Pakistani who actually knows what's the main cause behind the decline of our cricket team....

@Chanda Shaw : its not mental toughness its when senior players fail to take ownership of lead its team front the front. We have players like Misbah , Inzimam , Younis that have showed up in 4 to 5 batting position and letting the new comers with no experience get slaughtered while opening when the ball is new and moving... What kind of confidence are you giving to these new comers? they never nurture.. You should put new players at 4 or 5th position so they can bat, get their confidence up high and then you move them up the order.. that's the way its done.. Our seniors with tons of experience should actually open, take the shine of the ball, handle pressure and make way for a youngster to come on the pitch and show his talent.

As long as the fans are satisfied with these kinds of close losses, the team will never win consistently.
The fight is fine but where is the win?
