Punjab Government on Monday promulgated the Civil Administration Ordinance 2016, abolishing the district coordination officer (DCO) post across the province.
According to the ordinance, all DCO’s will now operate as deputy commissioners mandated with the power to take up inquiry into criminal cases.
Their mandate also includes ensuring speedy implementation of developmental projects, maintaining law and order, and dealing with public service delivery.
The deputy commissioners will work closely with representatives of local councils, and monitor their progress over time.
The government has also replaced the post of additional commissioner (AC) with additional deputy commissioner (ADC).
