All-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has been inducted into the One Day International (ODI) team, set to face Australia on Jan 13, a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official told DawnNews Saturday.
"The PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan has approved the decision to induct Hafeez as the 16th member of the squad," said a PCB spokesperson.
The PCB's Selection Committee headed by Inzamam-ul-Haq decided on his selection after receiving a request from the team management, including Coach Mickey Arthur and Captain Azhar Ali for sending Mohammad Hafeez to Australia for the ODI series, said the official.
"The management was seeking an all-rounder and asked the selection committee to send Hafeez to join them."
Hafeez will join the team shortly. The Pakistani team is already in Australia where the green shirts faced a whitewash in Test series. The ODI series is scheduled to begin on Jan 13.
The all-rounder had left his England tour in the middle and had returned home due to an injury. He was also dropped out of a Test series against West Indies and another against New Zealand due to the same reason.
Hafeez was banned after his bowling action had been declared illegal. He was allowed to play international cricket after the International Cricket Council cleared him following a test of his bowling action on Nov 17, 2016.
The selection committee had not included Pakistani batsmen Kamran Akmal and Ahmed Shahzad in the 15-member squad for ODI series against Australia despite their outstanding performance in National One Day Cup.
Pakistan and Australia will play the first ODI match on Jan 13 at Brisbane, second on Jan 15 at Melbourne, third on Jan 19 at Perth, fourth on Jan 22 at Sydney and the last on Jan 26 at Adelaide.

This kind of favouritism by the captain, coach and selection committee only persist in Pakistan.
Kamran Akmal, Ahmed Sahazad, Junaid Khan and others have performed so well in domestic ODI cup whereas Muhammad Hafiz who failed miserable has been called to join the team.
Shame on Pakistan cricket board and its inept chairman!!!

Most disgraceful selection!!! Hafeez has failed on so many occasions and even his home performances lately have been diabolical. It is a shocking decision. Azhar Ali deserves him and surely he will be another nail in Azhar's captaincy.

Nothing changes. Hafeez is back in the team, he cannot face fast bowlers, his bowling will be useless. He is past his prime just like Misbah. In Pakistan it always pays if you have contacts. In all 5 matches, his combined total score will be less than 125. Very poor decision by the board

Don't understand why hafeez got a call. There are plenty of players who performed really well in recent domestic level like Kamran Akaml....and others but hafeez has not performed well with new action in domestic so to me it's favourizm at its best

Australians have batted very comfortable against Pakistan's bowlers in the three test series. They would score 350 plus runs in the ODIs, and that would be hard to conquer. If Pakistan bat first, and make 350 plus runs, Australia would loose.

Nothing against Hafeez, but this move shows the panic in Pakistani quarters. I think Pakistani management should have some confidence in the young members they have selected for the tour. Give them full exposure without any apprehension. This move will shatter the confidence of youngsters in the squad. Inclusion of Hafeez will not change the result of any games. This is a team sport and each member must perform or forget about winning against any good team.

Here you go let's see if he can bowl 10 overs and won't get reported. Plus if he can open than no point of Azhar Ali to be in ODI team. Sarfaraz should be the captain and by removing Azhar Ali we can add extra batsman in middle order as Hafeez will be opening.

What a worse decision by PCB, but nothing new, all the Parchi guys will come back, we will see soon that all 3 Akmal brothers + Ahmad Shehzad + Misbah will be playing in ODI.
Why don't they bring back Javed Miandad & Imran khan & Inzi why don't you yourself start playing. As i before said that 2017 is the Black year for Pak Cricket.

Ahmad Shahzad, Mohammad Abbas and Kamran Akmal should have been selected. Sohail Khan could have been handy with his all round capabilities. After all he wasn't going to bowl any third spell here. Return of Hafeez is a step backwards but on the other side, I am sure it will ensure his retirement, so let it be a price we have to pay for it.

@optimist - If Pakistan does not qualify for the Champions Trophy and the next World Cup that would be a good thing for Pakistan cricket. In one of the TV programs with Nasim Rajpoot,you were talking about your performance as an all-rounder on the basis of stats and you were very much proud of your once number one ranking,but you actually played a batsman not a pure all-rounder,so your performance as batsman has been consistent and against good teams it has been pathetic.You can't compare yourself with Imran Khan ,Qasi Akram and even Abdul Razzak.
