FAISALABAD: Two policemen were killed and a boy suffered injuries when gunmen attacked them in a drive-by shooting in the Garden area on Friday.

Eyewitnesses said the policemen riding a motorbike signalled two motorcyclists to stop. The motorcyclists, however, opened fire on the policemen and fled. Both constables, identified as Naseem and Khalid, died on the spot.

Ramzan, a minor who was at his home located nearby, was injured when a bullet pierced through the gate and hit him in the leg. His condition in hospital was said to be stable.

Regional Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana, City Police Officer (CPO) Afzaal Ahmed Kausar and other police officers visited the crime scene.

According to the CPO, teams have been set up to trace the criminals involved and he would lead the investigation. He said it was not yet sure whether the attackers were robbers or terrorists as both constables were shot at point-blank range.

According to the CPO, some people said the two attackers were on a motorcycle while another version was there were four attackers on two motorcycles.
