MULTAN: Several banners have appeared in the Nishtar Medical College and Hospital demanding earlier elections of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Multan Chapter, pending since 2012.

Group leader of United Doctors Front (UDF) Dr Masoodur Rauf Haraj said last elections of the Multan chapter were held on April 16, 2010 and the two-year tenure of the pervious body had expired on April 2012 as per the constitution of the PMA.

He said even after the passage almost seven years, the former body was still not ready to hold elections.He demanded that the election commissioner should be appointed without any delay and free and fair elections should be held by announcing the schedule.Former PMA President Dr Shahid Rao said that the voter lists had been finalized by completing the process of registration.

“Arrangements for the elections have been completed and schedule will be announced soon, most probably within 10 days,” he added.
