DADU, Dec 27: Eight bombs exploded close to two electricity towers of a 500KV extra high voltage transmission line near Sonmiyani village some four kilometres from here late on Friday night, however, no loss of life was reported.

Some unidentified miscreants exploded the bombs near tower No780 of circuit No1 and tower No7 of circuit No2 of the Dadu- Guddu line in an attempt to disrupt power supply which damaged two sections of the line but failed to sever the supply.

Just after the explosions, officials of bomb disposal squad and special branch as well as a heavy police contingent led by DPO (operation) Ali Akbar Bhangwar and DPO (investigation) Tipu Sultan arrived at the spot and deployed police in the area and also recovered some pieces of the bombs.

A Wapda press release issued here on Saturday said that special teams of Wapda led by superintending engineer Raja Abdul Majeed and engineer Akhlaq Ahmed Memon from Jamshoro Thermal Power House rushed to the sites and repaired the damaged portions of the towers.

Talking to journalists, assistant engineer Gulsher Shar said that power was being supplied from Tarbela to Hub through the line and added that the act was a bid to cut the power supply which damaged four sections of the circuits.

He further said that such an attempt was also made in February near Arazi village.

DPO Bhangwar said that the police and law enforcement agencies were investigating the matter and added that no lose of life took place in the incident.

On complaint of the assistant engineer, Dadu town police have registered an FIR under the Explosive Act against unidentified terrorists.

However, no arrest was made till the filing of this report.
