WASHINGTON, Dec 28: The White House on Saturday described President Pervez Musharraf as “a strong partner” in the war against terrorism and vowed to continue to work with him.

“President Musharraf has been a strong partner in our global war on terrorism and we are continuing to work with him on our global efforts,” said White House spokesman Scott McClellan.

He said the latest assassination attempt on President Musharraf was “a reminder that the war on terrorism continues.”

Meanwhile, officials in Washington confirmed media reports that the FBI agents are helping Pakistani intelligence agencies investigate the recent attempts on Gen Musharraf’s life.

Reports in the US media said investigators had found the license plates of the two vehicles, which were registered in the NWFP.

Three major American newspapers — New York Times, Washington Post and Los Angeles Times — on Saturday published articles and editorial comments on the second assassination attempt on the president, reminding their readers that it was the fourth such attempt in less than two years.

“The past week has given the Bush administration more cause to reconsider its heavy reliance on a single general, Pakistan’s Pervez Musharraf, to maintain stability in one of the world’s most dangerous areas,” says The Washington Post.
