SWABI: A computerised arm licence centre was inaugurated here on Tuesday with an aim to eradicate the menace of illegal arm licences in the province.
Provincial Senior Minister for Information Technology Shahram Khan Tarakai inaugurated the centre. The centre has been set up under the ‘computerisation of arms licences’ project of the information technology department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Similar centres have also been set up in 12 other districts, including Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Malakand, Swat, Buner, DI Khan, Bannu, Kohat, Haripur, Abbottabad and Karak, the minister said.
The project aims at automating the entire process of manual issuance of arms licences throughout the province, he said, and added citizens visiting the centres would be facilitated through one-window operation for all transactions, including payment, finger printing, photographs, data entry and biometric record keeping.
Mr Tarakai said the other features of the initiative included digitisation of arm licence record, on-spot verification of arm licence by law enforcement agencies through SMS, foolproof and accountable revenue generation and efficiency to the optimum level.
