In the 15th fixture of the second edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) being played in Dubai on Thursday, Quetta Gladiators overpowered Karachi Kings rather easily to qualify for the playoffs.

At the end of their allotted 20 overs, the Kings had managed to put a somewhat decent total of 154 runs on the board.

But Gladiators' response was up to their name, to say the least, with Ahmed Shahzad and Asad Shafiq scoring a 100-run opening partnership in 11 overs.

They achieved the required 155-run target at the end of 19th over for the loss of four wickets.

Shahzad has scored 54 off 40 balls while Shafiq also providing great assistance on the other end, making 51 off 38.

Babar Azam was the leading run getter with 36 off 37 at the start of the inning, while Kieron Pollard scored a quickfire 31 off 19 at the end.

Following a rather impressive start, the Kings had managed to score 69 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first ten overs.

Kumar Sangakara was the first one to depart after making 28 of 18 before falling prey to Mahmudullah.

Mahmudullah was the pick of the bowler, taking three wickets at an economy of 5.25 in his allotted quota of four overs.

In their earlier encounter this season, Quetta Gladiators had overpowered Karachi Kings comprehensively by 7 wickets.

Batting first, after being put to bat by Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings had managed to put a total of 159 for the loss of eight wickets.

Karachi Kings had managed to take three early wickets, as Gladiators were 30 for 3 in the fifth over. Then their captain walked in and built a firm partnership with Rilee Rossouw.

They both added 130 runs for the fourth wicket partnership and saw their ship sail ashore through without suffering anymore damage.

The question is whether there are any favourable factors in play today that can halt the ongoing escalation and avert a head-on clash.
