Govt to approach Interpol for Brahamdagh Bugti's arrest
The interior ministry on Tuesday directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to issue red notices against Brahamdagh Bugti, head of the banned Balochistan Republican Party (BRP).
The ministry also directed the issuance of red notices against another accused, Sher Mohammad alias Shera, for suspected involvement in terrorist activities.
A notification issued by the ministry said both accused were involved in "various terrorist attacks in Balochistan province."
The ministry also directed FIA to approach Interpol for the arrest of both the accused.
Bugti left for Afghanistan shortly after his grandfather Nawab Akbar Bugti’s death in a military raid ten years ago.
While fleeing to Afghanistan, Brahamdagh Bugti had accused the Musharraf regime of trying to kill him as well. He won refuge in Afghanistan despite Pakistan’s request for his return, and later moved to Europe in 2010 along with his family.
He offered an olive branch in August 2015, when he announced for the first time his willingness to hold peace negotiations with the Pakistan government.
Three months after the interview to the BBC, in which he made the overture, the then Balochistan chief minister, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, and federal minister Abdul Qadir Baloch met him.
He confirmed the meeting, but said in the same breath that the chief minister was powerless and those at the helm should come forward.
