Actor Veena Malik in an appearance on a television show on Monday alleged that her husband had been physically abusive towards her, days after news surfaced that she had filed for khula from Asad Khattak in January.
ARY News programme 11th Hour host Waseem Badami had invited Malik and Khattak on his show in what he said was an attempt to reconcile differences between the two, and also called on Maulana Tariq Jameel to 'facilitate' the process.
Although her husband asks her for forgiveness "every single day", Malik told Jameel and the host that there are two things she could not forgive.
"First, that he [Khattak] beat me; second, that he disrespected me... not once, but repeatedly," she alleged.
Jameel assured Malik that his 'vote is with her' but also encouraged her to forgive her husband and "give him another chance".
"Your happiness is dear to me, but I also wish to see you raising a family," he told Malik.
"If he is asking you for forgiveness, give him one chance," he said. "He is saying it before so many people, he should be given another chance."
"I cannot question you Maulana sahib," Malik responded to Jameel's suggestion.
She then asked the religious scholar to obtain a guarantee from her husband in the form of a written contract, to which Khattak agreed, saying he would provide a written guarantee.
Jameel warned Khattak not to give Malik reasons to complain in the future. "You are saying these things on such a massive platform, you must ensure you don't give her a cause for complaint now."
"He has been asking my forgiveness for a long time, but I had told him something clearly. The sun could rise from the west, but I would not be ready to reconcile with him," she said.
"He has annoyed me a great deal in three years, he has worried me so much," added the actor.
"I am ready to give him another chance but it will all be done through court," Malik said.
The couple were married in Dubai on December 25, 2013. They have two children together.
Malik had filed a plea in a Lahore court on January 6, 2017 for a khula (dissolution of marriage) from her husband, which was issued in favour of the actress on January 31, 2017.
The couple have 90 days to reconcile and if the defendant still fails to show up in court, the divorce will not be reversible," the actor's lawyer earlier told DawnNews.

This is a private matter and should be resolved privately. Per se this is only a rating attempt on part of Waseem Badami otherwise how distasteful it is to come on TV and settle a real Khula case. Lastly, Molana Tariq Jameel shouldn't have come on this show. If all the parties were serious Waseem should have facilitated the meeting and appoint Molana as elder cum judge and reconcile the differences.

The only way Mr Khattak you can keep your marriage work for you is to accept it and then enjoy it, let your partner know that's the way you are and lastly a MAN can never sit at home and not work, you need to work and work a lot... the only way you can show your commitment to her is by NOT hitting her and START earning ... just the basics of marriage

Why this has to be publicised on such a scale? Maulana Tariq Jameel is a widely respected religious scholar, he shouldn't appear on the TV for settling personal disputes of the showbiz people. A private counselling may have been sufficient.

The pathetic situation and status of women in Muslim society is well known. The government should take proper measurement and use media to bring them their right to earn and live with pride. Pakistan has a male dominated society. The time has come to understand that women are not less than men. They are even better than men. Law should be made to protect them and amendment should be made for their vacancies in government jobs and encourage them to learn and earn. Remember women have always played a vital role in the development of a country or a society. The woman was brave. The mindset of male gender should change towards female genders. They are no longer an object to satisfy your lust and grow your children. THEY ARE HUMAN BEING! And should be treated equally. Suppose if a man who is sole earner dies - and if his wife is not able to work- what will happen to his family post his death? the woman with the children will have to beg or suffer for livelihood throughout her entire life.

Your sister or your wife is not your competitor -they cannot be - they are your supporter - they do this for your and their family. I remember a man recently killed her sister because she worked. The man killed his sister and destroyed the future of two families! In some way or other - are we different than the man? Change is required and should start from now on. Women must stand up for their rights. Remember revolution only brings change. I encourage each and every woman of Pakistan to demand the government for an amendment in the law that will empower them.

Her advocate is wrong with the statement saying, if they don't reconcile with 90 days, the divorce will not be reversible. Khula is considered as only the first of the three divorces by almost all religious scholars. So they can reconcile within 90 days without needing a new marriage contract but they can also reconcile after these 90 days and but then they will need to get a new marriage pact (aqd).

This case is reflective of how disconnected people (Muslims) are from the teachings of their faith. Pakistan, being a Muslim country, should be a model for other nations. Thus, I hope the be able to comprehend interpretation and practice of a faith is influenced by the culture within which it is practiced. Obviously, beating your spouse is against the very basic human rights. However, many can (and will) erroneously link the act of domestic abuse to faith (religion) and culture. This is how inappropriate stereotypes are created. I must also mention that human ego destroys relationships. All the best to this couple, whatever path they choose to walk on.

A lie, only now that she is married, which is the most necessary requirement of this society to offer some sort of face and honour saving for a woman, she wants to get back to old showbiz habits. It takes two to tango and the fault can't be one sided only. They have been married for 3 years and have two kids together.Now she is accusing him of beating/abuse. Why the relationship deteriorated so much?The husband is a business partner with her father and they get along fine.The husband is quiet and is not saying anything. Therefore, I can't assume that she is right or wrong unless we hear from him.If they are divorced, the real losers will be the kids who need both mother and father for a balanced family life. If one is missing, its going to affect their upbringing. No parents want this kind of stuff for their kids.My humble advice is to forgive, forget and move on with your life. She had some expectations before marriage and so did he. Now they are finding out the real life which is not all roses, so you need to compromise.This is not a role in a movie/acting but a real life story and now its time to invest in your kids/husband and it will pay nice dividends as the time passes.

@AKA To make an example, to tell everyone the importance of reconciliation and forgiveness in religion. Whats wrong with that ? People these days do everything on TV / Social Media (they even do not eat their food until they post pictures of it on social media) and when someone is showing the good side of religion on media, we started to consider him immature !! also it is not Maulana Sahib who brought them on media, they are here due to their own life styles, and if they are already on media, by doing this Maulana Sahib is trying to tell everyone that Divorce is not a simple matter and one should do his / her utmost best to avoid it.

A good example to the public.Hold the ''wife beater'' to account.Veena Malik spelt her terms clearly , obtained a written contract and made sure there were witnesses. So many Pakistani men think of their wives as their personal punchbag to vent their frustrations.
What do women have to do to earn a little respect? Even being a mother with young children is not enough for men to think twice before raising their hand. Shame.I'm glad she made noise and brought it to the public attention about it because it is not acceptable.Too often violence against women is taken as 'routine', 'light' matter and brushed under the carpet. It is hush- hushed because 'beyzati hogi' or 'tamasha' 'nahin chahiay' . Too often the women are made to feel guilty and take blame for a crime the man has committed. 'She must have provoked him'... she should tolerate it for the sake of her children etc'is often heard. And so the problem goes on . Women suffer in silence. Well NO MORE! It's time to demand justice!
