RAWALPINDI, July 26: Rawalpindi cantonment is the only cantonment in the country that has water purification plants.
This was stated by Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) chief executive officer Khawaja Iftikhar Mir on Saturday. He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a water purification plant at Allama Iqbal Colony. The RCB’s station commander, Brig Hamid Khalil, inaugurated the purification plant.
The cantonment board’s public relations officer, Ashraf Qureshi, RCB member Haji Ijaz, MNA Zamarud Khan and notables of the locality were also present on the occasion.
Mr Mir asked the people to cooperate with the civic body and ensure regular payment of water bills. Without people’s cooperation, provision of civic amenities is very difficult, he said.
He also emphasized on the people to take care of the plant so that it lasts long. People usually do not take care of something that is government’s property, he said, and emphasized that such thinking should be discouraged at every level.
Speaking on the occasion, station commander Brig Hamid Khalil said the RCB had fulfilled all its promises with the people in ensuring supply of potable water to the residents. All this has been done despite the fact that the cantonment board was facing a financial crunch, he said.
