LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has issued a final warning to various food production units to either mention ‘This is not milk’ on 15 per cent of the total area of a tea whitener’s packaging or face action.

“All firms producing tea whitener must mention ‘This is not milk’ on 15 per cent of the total portion of their product packaging till June 1, failing which they will have to face legal action under the food laws,” said PFA Director General Noorul Amin Mengal in a statement on Sunday.

He said if the existing tea whitener stock remained unfinished till June 1, it should be sold with a sticker affixed to it that says ‘This is not milk’. He said during the PFA’s investigation, it was revealed that tea whitener was being sold as milk, which in fact it was not.

“Tea whitener is prepared by using vegetable fat and it is being consumed by the public at large, especially children, as milk due to vague advertisement campaign by companies. It is also affecting public health,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mengal inspected various Sunday bazaars and sealed several shops, including a chicken sale centre.

DHA CEREMONY: A prize distribution ceremony of ‘Jashan-i-Baharan’ (spring festival) organised by the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) administration was held at a park in Phase 6.

The annual ceremony, according to a spokesman, was attended by a large number of floriculture enthusiasts, residents and notables.

DHA Lahore Administrator Brig Zafar Yasin Babar was the chief guest at the ceremony. Apart from the prize distribution, various cultural and traditional items such as horse dancing, puppet show, magic show, face painting were held. Tunes played by the military band added colour to the event.
