BAHAWALPUR, July 27: Security arrangements in the new Central Jail Bahawalpur are inadequate and unsatisfactory.
Talking to Dawn here on Sunday, DCO Imran said that he had visited jail a few days back and found the security arrangements not up to the mark.
Giving vent to his discontent in the wake of Sialkot jail incident, he said during his visit he noted that a portion of jail’s boundary wall was not repaired adequately. This could provide prisoners an opportunity to escape from jail, he said.
The DCO said that meetings of inmates with their visitors were also not secure as a large number of visitors daily come to meet prisoners without any thorough search.
In addition, he said, the canteen was also located at an unsuited place near the jail building. According to him, he sent his recommendations along with his observations to improve the jail security system to the authority concerned.
CONSTITUTED: The Punjab government has constituted the Punjab election appellate authority in the province to hear the appeals of union council Nazims and Naib Nazims unseated through no-confidence motions.
According to a notification issued by the government, Justice (rtd) Ijaz Nisar will be the chairman of the authority while its two nominated members are Sheikh Anwaar Hussain and Maj Tariq Mahmood Mazari. Chaudhry Shaukat Ali will act as its secretary.
This appellate authority will work under Article 24 of the Local Bodies Ordinance and its head office will be in Lahore. All appeals pertaining to the removal of UC Nazims and Naib Nazims will be filed and heard in Lahore by the authority.
