Fresh graduates celebrate at the convocation of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University, Peshawar, on Tuesday. — White Star

PESHAWAR: Around 203 graduates were awarded degrees at third convocation of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) Peshawar.

The degrees were awarded to graduates by SBBWU Vice-chancellor Dr Razia Sultana in Masters, MPhil and PhD programmes at the convocation held on Tuesday at University of Peshawar Convocation Hall, said a press release.

It said that 30 students of Masters and Bachelor of Science were awarded gold medals for grabbing first position in their respective departments. The graduates included seven PhD degree holders, two MPhil, 119 master degree holders and 75 Bachelor of Science in different disciplines.

The students of BS programme from affiliated colleges included Government Girls Degree College Hayatabad, Government Frontier College for Women Peshawar, Government City Girls College Peshawar and Government Girls Degree College Nowshera were also among the graduates, who received their degrees.

Addressing on the occasion, Dr Razia Sultana congratulated the students and their parents and encouraged them to move forward in their respective fields.

She said that SBBWU was going to start Chinese language courses in near future. She said that students of other colleges could also get admission in the Chinese language courses. She encouraged girl students to learn the Chinese language and play role in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project.

Dr Razia Sultana said that SBBWU got several achievements during the last three years. She said that the university awarded 900 scholarships to deserving students. She said that the university introduced quota seats for displaced students of Waziristan and Khyber Agency; residents of Chital and minorities.

The vice-chancellor said that soon they would set up their own laboratories, halls and libraries soon with the support of provincial government. She hoped that 4th convocation of the university would be held in the hall of SBBWU Peshawar.

She appealed to the provincial government to construct roads to the university, hostels for students and complete the under-construction work for the bright future of the young generation.
