LAHORE: The second team for the first Pakistan Kabaddi League, planned to be held here from May 16, was sold here on Saturday.

The first team of the league, Islamabad, was bought by hockey Olympian Mohammad Usman.

Former MPA and ex-vice-president of the Punjab Football Association M. Akhlaq bought the second team called Sialkot Wolves. He also appointed hockey Olympian Asif Bajwa, former secretary for the Pakistan Hockey Federation as mentor.

Pakistan Kabaddi Federation president Rana Sarwar said six teams would participate in the league. He added that buyers of the remaining four teams had also been lined up and MoUs would be signed with them after finalising details.

Sarwar hoped that foreign players would show interest in the league as it would offer handsome cash prizes.

Asif Bajwa said kabaddi was a traditional game of the country and Pakistan could earn honour at the international level if players would be provided maximum exposure.

To a query, organisers said every step would be taken to avoid fixing in the league.
