Former PML-N leader Liaquat Ali Jatoi joined the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf on Thursday, a statement issued by the party said.

According to the statement, the senior politician from Sindh joined the party after a formal meeting with PTI Chairman Imran Khan, during which "the Pakistan Peoples Party's corruption and the prevailing situation in Sindh were discussed".

"The people of Sindh are tired of the provincial government's corruption and exploitation," Jatoi said during the meeting.

He expressed hope that the PTI would form a government in Sindh and the country in the 2018 General Election.

"We will not let the people of Sindh suffer [any] further," Khan said during the meeting as he welcomed Jatoi's decision.

"We will save the country from the PML-N and the PPP," the chairman added.

PTI leaders Jahangir Tareen, Dr Arif Alvi and Dewan Sachal were present during the meeting.

A formal announcement regarding Jatoi's decision to join the PTI will be made during a rally in Dadu on April 22, the statement added.

Jatoi had resigned from basic membership of the PML-N in January 2014, after expressing disappointment with party chief Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The senior politician has previously served as the chief minister of Sindh.
