A Rangers sepoy was slain and another member of the paramilitary force injured during an operation in Dera Ghazi Khan on Sunday.
The Pakistan Rangers Punjab conducted a special Intelligence-Based Operation under Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad in the Chhera Thal area, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Five suspected terrorists were killed during the operation, ISPR said.
ISPR later revealed more details of the operation, stating that of the five terrorists killed, two were high value terrorists by names of Zulfiqar (alias Zulfi), wanted in seven FIRs and alleged to have close links with the banned outfit Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) Harabiyar Marri group, and Peer Baksh (alias Peera), with a Rs2 million price tag on his head and wanted in 15 FIRs.
"During an exchange of fire, Sepoy Kamran embraced shahadat while Deputy Superintendent Rangers Haroon was injured and evacuated to Combined Military Hospital Multan," the statement said, adding that the operation is still in progress.
Funeral prayers for Sepoy Kamran were offered at Multan Garrison, and was attended by Corps Commander Multan Lieutenant General Sarfraz Sattar, DG Rangers Punjab Major General Azhar Naveed Hayat, and other retired and serving military officials. His body will be taken to his home town of Juranawala for burial.
