MURREE, July 29: Adviser to the Punjab chief minister and chairman of the task force on beautification and environment on Tuesday announced that Rs50 million would be spent on beautification of Murree.
He was presiding over a briefing on the new city project at Jinnah Hall, Murree. Officials of the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) and chief organizer of PML-Q Sardar Saleem also attended the meeting.
The task force chairman said an authority would soon be established in this regard. He also directed the Tehsil Municipal Administration to establish a technical committee to devise the plan of new city and the construction in Murree.
He said this committee would work along with the building plan committee as its member. The technical committee would include consultants, engineers and a team from Nespak who would look after the affairs of the TMA regarding the construction.
The maps would be finalized after the approval of the said committee.
The task force chairman also expelled some of the members of the building plan committee. There would be time to time scrutiny of the plan, he added.
He said as many as five designs would be approved for all types of constructions in Murree that would strictly be followed. Separate commercial and residential areas would also be setup in the new city, he added.
He also asked the Nespak to conduct a survey and formulate a plan for the proper sewage and drainage system in Murree to save its land from erosion and sliding. For this, he said, a special digital system would be introduced to take pictures for the map of the area from satellite.
He said no decision had yet been taken about the area where the new city would be established.
The team of foreign experts, after survey, will take the decision of the area for the new city project, he added.
The task force chairman said wild life park at Murree would be privatized and a sports city be developed at Bhurban.
He said about Rs100 million out of the Rs200 million approved by the Punjab chief minister for the uplift of Murree had been transferred into the account of the TMA, Murree, besides the transfer of Rs5 million for the rain affected
people.
He asked the TMA to remove the advertisements, posters banners from the city limits and ban wall chalking within 10 days.
He also asked the forest department to make a plan for granting subsidy to the people of the area for plantation.
He said all the construction were stopped except the two carried out by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and General Tariq Pervez at Pindi Point.
The task force chairman also directed the TMA to issue permits for legal constructions.
He also announced that volunteers would be provided to control the traffic. Parking Plazas would also be established in Murree, besides parking zones, he added.
The superintendent of traffic police, Rawalpindi, while briefing the chairman said a crane for lifting vehicles would be handed over to Murree traffic police.
