ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) director-general Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera has been suspended on the directive of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
It is being suggested he was removed on corruption charges but on the notification issued by Cabinet Secretariat on Tuesday, the reason of removal is not mentioned.
According to the notification, he has been suspended for three months and ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) has been directed to move a summary for approval of Prime Minister for initiating disciplinary proceedings against him.
“I have been suspended for three months, but I have no idea why that’s happened,” Ganjera told Dawn, adding there was no corruption case against him.
PSB officials also claimed they had no idea about corruption cases against Ganjera but said he wasn’t enjoying good working relations with some officers.
“Things will be clearer on Thursday,” a PSB officer told Dawn.
On who would take charge of the PSB, sources said that the PSB currently doesn’t have a Grade-20 officer but did have some Grade-19 officers.
One of them, however, is facing several financial inquiries during his previous posting.
Sources added that Ganjera enjoys support from IPC minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada, who has decided to take up the matter with the Prime Minister.
