ABBOTTABAD: Four people were killed and 15 others injured in a road accident on Karakuram Highway near Havelian here on Saturday.

A speeding trailer on way to Rawalpindi collided with another trailer coming from the opposite direction (from Havelian to Abbottabad).

Two cars and a van also piled up due to the mishap resulting in the killing of four persons and injuries to 15 others near the Langra Mor.

The dead included both the drivers of the trailers identified as Saifullah of Mianwali and Shah Nawaz of Hafiz Abad. Other victims were named Mir Alam of Qalandar Abad Abbottabad and Yasmeen Bibi of Banda Pir Khan Abbottabad.

First aid was given to the minor injured persons in the rural health centre in Havelian, while the critically injured were shifted to district headquarters hospital, Abbottabad, and Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad.

Havelian DSP Khursheed Tanoli, who supervised the rescue work, said that wreckage of the damaged vehicles had been removed and traffic restored on the road. He said the injured persons were shifted to hospital with the help of Rescue 1122.

He said that exact cause of the accident could not be known, but it was stated to be because of some fault in the trailer coming from Abbottabad side.

Medics at Ayub Medical Complex said that condition of the three injured persons was critical.
