KARACHI: The body of a young woman was found hanging with a ceiling fan in a Saddar hotel on Sunday morning, police said.

They, however, believed that it was not a case of suicide since the victim’s husband, who was staying with her, left the hotel early morning.

SSP-South Saqib Ismail Memon told Dawn that Farheen, 28, and her husband Shaheer were staying in a Saddar hotel after their marriage since the victim’s in-laws did not accept her as their daughter-in-law.

He said the hotel staff found the body in the room and informed the police about it.

He said the victim’s husband was however missing. Later, the SSP said, police came to know that her husband “fled to Dubai” via an early morning flight.

The body was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination. Police Surgeon Aijaz Khokhar told Dawn that the woman was strangled with the help of a rope.

“The very fact that her husband fled gives sufficient reason to investigators to treat it as a murder case,” the SSP said.

An FIR was lodged at the Preedy police station against the victim’s husband on the complaint of the victim’s mother, Summiya.

Another police officer said that Farheen, a resident of Bahria Town in Islamabad, occasionally worked for a private TV channel as a model.
