ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Gul Zaib has qualified for the pre-quarterfinals in the 69kg category at the Asian Boxing Championships being staged in Tashkent, says an official of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF).

Talking to APP, PBF general secretary Lt Col Mohammad Nasir Ijaz Tung said Gul beat his Palestinian opponent in the event to reach the pre-quarterfinals.

However, Mohammad Asif (52kg), another Pakistani pugilist, lost to his Kazakh rival in the championship that would continue till May 7 in the Uzbek capital, added the PBF official.

“The Pakistan boxers participating in the championships include Muhibullah (49kg), Syed Mohammad Asif (52kg), Salman Baluch (64kg), Gul Zaib (69kg), Tanvir Ahmed (75kg), Awais Ali Khan (81kg) and Sanaullah (91kg),” he said.
