JHANG: A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Mirage jet crashed near a village in the Athara Hazari area of Jhang district during a routine training mission on Tuesday. The pilot survived the crash after ejecting himself safely from the aircraft.

The Mirage aircraft had taken off from the PAF Rafiqui Base in Shorkot.

Sources said that the Air Headquarters in Islamabad had formed a board of inquiry to determine the cause of accident.

A fire truck and a Rescue-1122 ambulance were called to the site of the crash where the jet had caught fire.

Assistant Commissioner Shabir Ahmed and law enforcement personnel also arrived at the scene, where the AC later confirmed that the aircraft’s pilot was unhurt and that no loss of life or property on the ground was reported.
