LARKANA, Aug 1: Three teaching hospitals affiliated with the medical colleges in the Interior of Sindh will soon have incinerators installed to dump hospital waste.

It was learnt here on Friday that the purchase section of the health department of the government of Sindh had placed the orders after offering tenders.

The Liaquat Medical College Hospital, Jamshoro, Peoples Medical College Hospital, Nawabshah, and Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, have been selected for the purpose.

The hospital waste will be burnt in the incinerators instead of being throw out into the open.

It is common practice in the Chandka Medical College Teaching Hospital and its affiliated institutions to remove hospital waste and dump it in nearby dustbins.

The hospital sources said that stuffing hospital waste in open dustbins was a source of spreading infectious diseases, and added that by installing the incinerator the issue would be resolved amicably.

They said that each incinerator would cost Rs6,594,962, and the total cost of three incinerators would amount to Rs19,784,886.

They said that the incinerators would be ready within a period of six months.

PROTEST: People hailing from the Gokalpur village demonstrated outside the press club against the investigation wing of the Mahota police for barging into a house and arresting two people.

The protesters alleged that a fake FIR had been registered against Mr Shahid.

They alleged that the Mahota police (investigation wing) on Friday barged into his house and arrested Imamuddain and Rabil.

They demanded that an impartial inquiry be carried out into the incident.
