LAHORE: The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will assist the Dubai police in digitalising their police stations and developing different systems, including cyber security system.
A formal request in this regard was made by chief of Dubai police Abdullah Khalifa at a meeting with PITB chairman Dr Umar Saif in Dubai on Sunday.
“The board will integrate all surveillance systems with police stations in Dubai. Besides, it will ensure cyber security of financial institutions and other departments, which will be part of a wider security network,” Dr Saif told Dawn from Dubai by phone.
He said that the PITB would develop a crowd monitoring system in connection with Dubai 2020 Expo. It will also digitalise traffic system in Dubai,” Dr Saif said, adding the board would develop all these systems in two years.
He said the PITB had an experience of digitalising 712 police stations in the 36 districts of Punjab. He said that the PITB was also assisting Nigeria to computerise their Haj operation.

Well, We haven't seen any digitization in any of the police station in Punjab. From FIR Registration to investigation, there is no relief to the people of Punjab from Poilce except who have some good relations with punjab police. First do something in home then offer it to the Dubai.

Its a little hard to authenticate this news since I have been living in Dubai since QUITE A few years and I don't think PITB is at a level where they can digitalize Dubai PS. Since Dubai Police is one famous for its technology and advancements in the world.
I really doubt the authenticity of this news. People who have Bentley and Bugatti in their fleet would look for PITB for help?
It might be a casual meeting/seminar. What so ever but the DUBAI is completely digital at this date. ALREADY

PIA helped train Emirates pilots back in the day (when it launched). Even the first Emirates flight was flown by a PIA pilot from Dubai to Karachi. This is the same sort of export we should focus on. More power to Umer Saif.

@Akram Good that Pakistan becomes known for its prowess in IT also. In fact, to make progress in any technical field, you need an internal climate which is conducive to research and development. Only Pakistanis can say if they have this climate or not.

..as a UAE resident for over a decade I can safely say going by the track record Pakistanis have in the UAE that PITB top hierarchy have had a meeting with some junior level police officers merely as a PR exercise - these Emirates probably have no idea what the agenda or topic was but as an easily pleased nation we think we have secured a big deal!
Dubai is very much Euro/USA followed by Indian centric, sadly Pakistan doesn't get a mention in their agenda due to incompetency of Pak high commission staff in UAE/foreign policy!

Its not surprising. Pakistan has helped Sudan and few other countries with Machine Readable Passport (MRP) projects successfully in the past. Our former NADRA Chief Technology Officer (CTO) (now chairman NADRA Usman Mobin) is an MIT computer science graduate oversaw those projects.
