Afghanistan's top envoy to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal on Monday rejected claims that Pakistani security forces killed 50 Afghan soldiers in retaliation to the Chaman cross-border attack, saying that only two Afghan soldiers were slain and seven others injured.
"Woke up to celebratory front page headlines today on all Pakistani papers saying Pakistan killed 50 Afghani soldiers and injured 100 in Chaman clash," Zakhilwal tweeted.
"[The] truth is only 2 Afghan soldiers were shaheed and about 7 injured," he added.
On Sunday, Inspector General (IG) Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan Maj Gen Nadeem Anjum claimed that 50 Afghan security personnel were killed and another 100 injured as Pakistani forces retaliated to unprovoked firing by Afghan border forces on security personnel in Balochistan's Chaman area last week.
The FC Balochistan chief said four or five check posts were also destroyed when Pakistani border guards retaliated to the cross-border attack, adding that Afghanistan pleaded for ceasefire on May 5, which Pakistan accepted.
On Friday, Pakistan closed the border after attacks by Afghan forces on census staff and security personnel escorting them left 12 people dead and 40 others injured.
The Afghan envoy slammed the reports, saying, "The Chaman clash left casualties, deaths and injured on Pakistan side too but we, instead of celebrating, called it unfortunate and regrettable."
Zakhilwal asserted that the loss of even two lives "are too many if our claim for seeking good neighbourly relations is genuine and if we mean well for each other."
It should be noted that in Sunday's briefing, the IG FC had stated: "We are not happy over their losses since they are our Muslim brothers."

Do not be confused my heart is saddened by the loss of human lives no matter it is on Afghan, Pakistan or Indian side no matter it is soldier or civilian each human life is precious. But what seems clear to me that slowly but surely Pakistan is solving this myth of Durand line for good by busting the illusions of Afghanistan and busting of these illusions will bring PEACE to the area. Indian and Pakistan Indian and Bangladesh was once same country and faces the same situation like divided villages and populations but with the resolve issues are solved now two Punjabs and two Bangals have no border issues. I'm glad that the casualties were not 50 and I'm upset that 9 Pakistanis and 2 Afghans lost their lives over senseless conflict. We should try to resolve our differences instead of doing this. I really hope that the Afghan government comes to its senses and stop this insanity. They should realize that we are their brothers and we are the ones who would always be there for them. Instead they are becoming puppets of the Indian government.
P.S I have nothing against the average Afghans or Indians.

Who should we trust? I am glad there have been far fewer casualties in Afghanistan. Nobody deserves to die a senseless death. However, the important thing is whether Afghanistan has learnt the lesson and will not engage in such a reckless conduct again. Afghanistan should know that the people of Pakistan are committed to having zero tolerance for any aggressive conduct by any of its neighbor on its soil. The people of Pakistan want peace in the region and want to resolve their problems. There is no foolproof method or system of ascertaining the number of injured or dead on the enemy side. The claim is based on the amount of ammunition used and there after the casualties are estimated on assumption. Claim for greater number of casualties is to show or prove efficiency of own forces. Own casualties are always expressed very low and that too for showing own efficiency.

The first step from Pakistan should be to send all Afghan refugees back to their country with respect or if India sympathize with Afghanistan then arrangements should be made to send them to India. Secondly borders must be secured to avoid influx of more Afghans into Pakistan. Only then Pakistan will be able to stop further entry of Kalbushans in disguise into their country. Fencing must be completed at all costs.

Afghanis are the nation who were embraced by Pakistan since the invasion of USSR in Afghanistan back in 1980s. Pakistan open its door for them against the war victims, provided them an open opportunity to live and stay in their country without being strange. BUT They are still living in Pakistan doing businesses and ALSO DOING CONSPIRACY against them. This incident is the perfect example of Ungrateful people.

@khem We as pakistanis want to believe Afghan claims are true as we do not want our fellow muslims harmed in any way. I hope Afghans have similar feelings towards us and will refrain from opening guns on civilians in future. Negotiations and talks is the key not guns and bullets.
