The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday decided to hear a case regarding Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's (PTI) alleged foreign funding separately from a case regarding Imran Khan's alleged contempt of court.
Taking up the matter of of Imran Khan's contempt of court — where the PTI chief had, in his remarks in response to the foreign funding case, called the ECP "biased" — the ECP issued a final warning to Khan, ordering him to submit a reply by May 17.
The contempt notice was first issued on January 24 on a petition filed by PTI founding member Akbar S. Babar.
In the case of PTI's alleged foreign funding, the ECP overruled the party's challenge to the ECP’s jurisdiction in the case.
The ECP also reiterated in its order that the PTI submit all documents, including bank statements of PTI employees in whose accounts money was received allegedly from illegal sources.
The documents sought include registration of two offshore companies in the United States which were used to collect and transmit over $3 million to Pakistan in the PTI accounts.
Both cases were adjourned till May 17.
