CHARSADDA: The district administration on Monday removed several illegal structures built in front of the shops and on the drains during an anti-encroachment drive in the city bazaars here.
Assistant commissioner Noor Wali Khan along with additional assistant commissioner Inayatullah Khan and TMA staff launched the anti-encroachment campaign to remove illegal structures and clear the footpaths from the encroachers.
Talking to mediapersons, the officials said the drive was ordered by deputy commissioner Tahir Zaffar Abbasi on the demands of the local residents.
They said venders and shopkeepers had occupied pavements and even sides of the roads in the city bazaars. They said complaints were made to the district administration that passersby and motorists were facing hardships due to growing encroachments in the markets.
AC Noor Wali warned the shopkeepers to not occupy footpaths by placing items in front of their shops.
He also directed the TMA workers to clear the clogged drains in the city.
SHOT DEAD: A man was killed while owner of bargain centre got critical injuries when they were fired upon by rivals in Mandani Bazaar on Monday.
Injured Samiullah, owner of the bargain centre and also a councillor, reported to police that Aurangzeb was sitting at his outlet when Saifullah, his son Tehsinullah and relatives Naseer and Murad of Shiekhano Bari Banda opened fire on them. As a result, Aurangzeb was killed on the spot while he (Samiullah) got injuries and was taken to DHQ hospital, Charsadda, from where he was referred to a hospital in Peshawar.
According to police, motive behind the murder was an old enmity.
BAN RESENTED: Football players staged a protest demonstration against the administration of Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex Charsadda for not allowing them to play at the complex.
The players also protested alleged misappropriation of sports funds and pathetic attitude of the administration of the sports complex and the district nazim.
They blocked the Mardan-Charsadda road for all kind of traffic.
The players said on one hand the KP government had been making tall claims of promoting sports activists in the province, but on other, the administration of the sports complex had closed its doors on the players.
They said sports complex was only allowed to be used by officers of the district administration and their blued-eyed players.
