Talking to mediapersons, the officials said the drive was ordered by deputy commissioner Tahir Zaffar Abbasi on the demands of the local residents.

They said venders and shopkeepers had occupied pavements and even sides of the roads in the city bazaars. They said complaints were made to the district administration that passersby and motorists were facing hardships due to growing encroachments in the markets.

AC Noor Wali warned the shopkeepers to not occupy footpaths by placing items in front of their shops.

He also directed the TMA workers to clear the clogged drains in the city.
