KOHAT: The social and political circles have demanded reinstatement of Alizai feeder and a basic health unit for the mountainous Gabro area of Sherkot union council, which was inhibited some 40 years ago by the tribes from Orakzai Agency.

Talking to this correspondent, district councillor Musawar Hussain also regretted that a notice of closure had been served on the sole primary school of the area under the policy where institutions with less than 50 students were being closed. He said that there was no other school in the radius of five kilometers.

He said that due to absence of roads and a bridge on the stream, which raged during rainy season, and melting of snow coming from Orakzai Agency for months they had to carry their patients on donkeys or cots. It takes five to six hours to reach the nearby main road of Kacha Pakha, he said.

Mr Hussain said that building a bridge and providing the people with health and communication facilities would not be possible without the help of MPs. He stated that they had met several times with MPA Ziaullah Bangash, but he also could not resolve the problems.

Village nazim Ishtiaq Hussain said that a new feeder for Alizai was approved and poles and wires had reached the villages, but as soon the ANP government ended it was linked to the Kohat city due to which the lines were now overloaded and people had to undergo prolonged power cuts.

Social worker Ali Hussain said that Gabro area needed roads and a bridge on the stream on priority.

They have appealed to the MPA and MNA to provide them with basic amenities of life.

Meanwhile, convener of district council sought proposals from the councillors for new development schemes worth Rs200.6 million which remains unutilised from the budget for fiscal year 2016-2017.

A session of the council was held at the District Council Hall at KDA Town with convener Abdur Rasheed in the chair to review the annual development programme on Thursday.

It was attended by district nazim Maulana Niaz Mohammad and other councillors.

He asked the councillors to submit new development schemes or revise the old ones so that these could be sanctioned before the end of current fiscal.

‘MILITANT’ HELD: Police arrested an alleged militant from Boraka area and recovered a hand grenade and pistol from him on Thursday. They said that the militant, identified as Shah Wali of Laal Garhi, Shahpar, had run away in 2012 Bannu jailbreak incident. They said that he was imprisoned in a murder case. A case has been registered against him.
