BAKU: Pakistan’s talented shooter Khalil Akhtar bagged the first bronze medal for the country in the 25 meter center-fire pistol competition here at the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games on Friday.

There was another good news for the visitors when brilliant martial artist Saadi Abbas qualified for the 75kg final here after defeating his Uzbek opponent 2-0 in the semifinal. He will now be up against five-time world champion Rafael from Azerbaijan in the final.

Earlier, Saadi outclassed his Indonesian opponents 3-0 to enter the semis.

Other contests scheduled in the day included Pakistan’s tennis duo of Aqeel Khan and Mohammad Abid taking on Jordanian pair while Abid and Muzammil Murtaza playing singles against Jordanian counterparts.

In the ladies tennis, Pakistan’s Ushna Sohail and Sara Mansoor will take on Turkish players in the doubles.

In the boxing competitions of 46-49kg, Pakistan’s Mohibullah will face Turkmenistan’s Anasevdo while Tanveer Ahmed will take on Mali’s famous boxer Dawooda.

In the karate contests, Pakistan’s Beenish Hasan will compete in the 50kg event while Naz Gul will be featuring in the 55kg event and Sana Kausar in the 61kg event.
