KARACHI: A suspected gangster was shot dead in an alleged police encounter in the Lyari area on Saturday morning.

Police said they carried out a targeted raid in Ali Mohammad Mohalla in Baghdadi to arrest suspect Sameer Saleem. As he saw the police approaching, he resorted to firing and during an exchange of gunfire he got killed, they added.

The police claimed to have recovered a 9mm pistol from his custody.

“The deceased was affiliated with the Baba Ladla gang and involved in a recent armed attack on a police mobile,” said City SSP Adeel Hussain Chan­dio. He was also involved in two murders and a grenade attack case, he added.

Man found dead in Jodia Bazaar

A man was found shot dead in Jodia Bazaar on Saturday.

Police said that the body of Mehtab Mohammed, 50, was found from the roof of a shop where he used to sleep. He was shot in the head. The Kharadar police said that the victim, a resident of Surjani Town, was a kite seller. The police believed that a stray bullet might have hit him, which proved fatal.
