GWADAR: Levies Force has arrested the contractor responsible for constructing Pishikan-Ganz road where gunmen killed 10 labourers belonging to Sindh on Saturday.

“We have taken the contractor, Dur Mohammad Nigori, into custody for not informing the administration about resumption of work on the road,” Naeem Khan Bazai, Deputy Commissioner of Gwadar, told reporters on Sunday.

He said that the road was not part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and that it was being built by the Balochistan government.

Work on the road had started three years ago but had remained suspended intermittently due to security concerns and paucity of funds, he said.

Recently, the contractor had resumed work on the road without informing the local administration, the deputy commissioner said.

He deplored the killing of 10 labourers busy in constructing the road and said that a case had been registered against unidentified attackers.

He said that the people of Gwadar had rejected the terrorist act by attending funeral prayers of the workers in a large number, giving the message that they were united against terrorists.

Mr Bazai said that the incident would not cast an adverse impact on development activities in Gwadar district and the government would provide security at the sites of development projects.
