KARACHI: The two-day Karachi Boxing Championship that promises to unearth budding talent from Lyari, the hub of the game, begins at the Ustad Ali Mohammad Qambrani Stadium Kakri Ground on May 23.

The event will be organised by the Sindh Boxing Association (SBA) in collaboration with the Sindh Sports Board, the SBA secretary Asghar Baloch said on Tuesday.

According to him, local pugilists will vie for honours in 10 weights – 49 kg, 52 kg, 56 kg, 60 kg, 64 kg, 69 kg, 75 kg, 81 kg, 91 kg and + 91 kg in the youth (under-18) and seniors (under-40) categories.

He said winners of final bouts in both the categories gets Rs2,000 while runners-up receives Rs1,000.

Baloch said the event will help to pick probables for the Quetta National Games in addition to selecting pugilists for the one-day boing event being organised by the Sindh Rangers at the Poples Stadium on May 25.

Meanwhile, the weigh-in of the boxers for the Karachi Boxing Championship will be held at Muslim Azad Boxing Club on May 22 from 4pm to 6pm.
