LAHORE: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Senator Sirajul Haq calls for “thorough electoral reforms” before the 2018 polls.
“Thorough electoral reforms before the next general election should be carried out. Besides, election to 50pc of the seats should be held on the basis of proportionate representation. The representatives of the farmers, workers and people related to the health and education sectors be elected on these seats. The other 50pc of seats should be filled through direct election,” Mr Haq proposed.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he reiterated that the JIT’s probe into Panama Papers case was under way but Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was posing as if he had been cleared of all charges (of money laundering and having off-shore holdings).
Mr Haq further said it would be a great tragedy if the accountability was not done through the judiciary. He said the fear could be seen on the faces of the rulers and those who plundered public money would not escape accountability this time. He said there could not be any change in society without accountability.
“I offer myself for accountability first and then want to see accountability of Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari, Imran Khan and others,” he said.
